Snowy Friday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Snowy Friday Morning

Howdy all. Lots of conversation going on here the past few days. Am kind of laughing over all the excitement you gals in CA are having over the rain. Reminded me of those old movies on TV where the farmers are in despair cause their crops are drying up, thry are going to lose their homestead and then just toward the end, when all looks lost, rain comes and they are all out rejoicing, getting soaked etc. But I know you need it. Barbie, bet it’s pretty seeing the snow capped mountains. We had rain here all day yesterday and it pretty much took care of the snow. A lot of people were hoping it would as they want to clean up yards from the big leaf fall earlier this month. But the forecast held true and we got the light covering of snow they said we would get last night and the ground is white again. But it’s supposed to warm up these next few days and if the sun comes out, might well melt it off.

Lyn, hope you get your phone calls pretty soon. It’s frustrating having to wait. My dad’s aunt had a mobility scooter and she tooled all over the place. She would ride it over to the grocery store by the senior complex where she lived and do her shopping. They nicked named her “hot rod granny” over there  Karen, shot in the eye makes me queasy too, but had that done when I did had cataract surgery years ago. Martha, glad you are walking a bit better. Wow Velda, what a day you had. Glad the patient is feeling better. I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled at same time, so I know how he feels. Sounds like you are laying out a spread for Thanksgiving. Good luck with your Christmas shopping. I’m looking for some teddy bears for Toys for Tots. Usually throw a couple in the box. What kid doesn’t like a teddy bear. I still have mine and I know there are times when even adults wish they could hug one when things get tough. The police used to give them to kids at scenes of traumatic events and maybe they still do. I figure toys are fun for awhile but eventually they break or get ignored, clothes wear out, but the bears are still there unless the family dog gets a hold of it  Am also thinking of buying a mess of canned goods and few other things for Food Pantry as holidays are busy time for them. Don’t have anyone to buy presents for so why not. And as we get older we have what we need anyway.

Judy, glad all your tests are okay and off to FL you go. I’m sure you will enjoy this winter as nothing you need to be tied down to.

Beth, I’ll be joining you on the Bone Density scan thing too. NP wants me to get one done as last was 4 years ago. I sometimes think it’s a way for the drug companies to make money, as next thing is you get prescribed for some pill to help the bones. Never had to do that years ago and it’s a part of aging

Well enough jabbering here. Having a leisurely morning as nothing pressing here. Doc appts are all done, House is cleaned, so can just do what I want. Think will go out and look at recliners as want a new one. Do need to pick up a prescription that was renewed, but no hurry on that. Hope you all have a great day.

Good morning Sue and all who follow!

Another beautiful cool day! Haven't seen the tops of the mountains yet since there were still clouds covering them up yesterday. Maybe today. Lots of people headed up to there yesterday to play in the snow. The higher mountains like Big Bear were thrilled to have "real" snow versus the man-made snow they have been making up til now. Most of the ski resorts are planning to open up next week for Thanksgiving weekend.

Have a few more flowers to plant today before heading back to work. Then have 3 days off. Tomorrow, will be heading to the Gourd Festival just north of here.

What are everyone's plans for Thanksgiving?
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Chilly here too and going to get colder, much colder 17° on Thursday....Brrrrrrrrrrrr Predicting some snow and bigger snow in the passes. I live at the bottom of the Siskiyou pass (separates OR/CA) so I know the news people will lose their minds over one flake or two. Not sure there will be any snow as I have heard this song and dance way too many times. Then when it does snow it is a surprise. LOL Sun is out so should warm us up to 56° by afternoon. I still love fall I just bundle up and enjoy these cool sunny days.

My eye was sore last night so just kept a wet cloth on it off and on. Went to bed, slept well and it feels much better this morning. Doc said it is very much improved so guess it is worth it to suffer for the short time. Breakfast is done along with a couple cups of coffee, so now time to do a few housekeeping chores as we are playing Mexican train here this afternoon.

Making a raspberry pecan muffin loaf as I want a little something sweet with my afternoon coffee. No more Ice Cream for a while. Trying to eat healthier and lose a few pounds. I need to get out and do a bit more walking so will do that as weather permits. Emma loves to go for walks. I thought she was getting a bit fat but when I weighed her she weighs the same as she did a few months ago LOL (wish I could say the same) Her coat is just super thick right now, I guess for winter altho she doesnt spend much time out in the cold ha ha

Hoping Lyn has some relief from her lung issues. I think a mobility scooter is a great option if you need it and it sounds like you do Lyn.

Well I am off to spiff up the house and a load of laundry, such an exciting life I lead LOL

California is a very large state (it is the third largest in the U.S., after Texas and Alaska), the weather can be very different between southern California and northern California. Northern California - where I live (and also where several other Forum members live) has not seen any appreciable rainfall since early May. A couple light sprinkles in September (not even enough to wet the dust) and nothing since then. Thus Northern California is - and remains - in a condition of severe drought, and still at extremely high risk for wildfire, and will remain so until which time a soaking rain arrives.

The official rainy season here begins October 1. It is now nearly December, with no rain. It's not looking good, drought-wise, to have several months of our "rainy season" pass by with no rain.

California's Central Valley - mostly in the northern part of the state - is considered the "breadbasket" of the U.S., because so much of the nation's food it grown here (watch your grocery bill in coming months!). Without rain, many dry-land crops can't grow. Crops that are irrigated here, when there is no rain, are depleting the aquifer - and the aquifer is failing in many rural communities in the northern part of the state, with people's wells going dry.

Living here in an agricultural area of California as I do, I can well understand the jubilation of farmers - and everyone else - when the rains do come. It is a cause for celebration.

Even homeowners here are affected by the lack of rainfall - we are often limited on the amount of water we can use, which often means elimination of the watering of our yards and landscaping (which means watching everything die), in really bad years people here have needed to regulate their showers, laundry and even the flushing of their toilets.

Restaurants don't offer glasses of water with meals.

This is the sad truth, and it is definitely no joke. When you don't have water, you don't have much.

"Slight chance of showers" for next Tuesday, we are keeping our fingers crossed - but will believe it when we see it.

Just had a huge scare! Was checking my voicemail messages from yesterday and had one from the storage place where I keep my trailer. She said she found the door of the trailer open in the morning! She took photos and then shut the door as best she could. Of course, I panicked and just raced right over there! I saw an empty Red Bull can and a broken bottle of vodka in front of the trailer and really panicked! I checked the door but, strangely enough, it was locked! Both locks were locked. I unlocked them both and went inside. Nothing different or missing, altho there isn't much in there right now anyways. I went outside and checked the pass thru which wasn't locked because the key broke the other day when I was there so I wasn't able to lock it again. Nothing moved around or missing in there either. I locked the door again and went to the office and asked the guy there. He didn't know much about it and couldn't find any photos. I will have to wait until tomorrow when she returns to see the photos. Very strange mystery! Just so relieved that everything appears to be fine!

Just got home and a guy showed up at my door. He is from the architecture committee and gave me a permit to paint the trim on my house! Yay! Now I need to buy a small ladder so I can get to the trim at the top of the windows.

I tried to dig up the dirt around the palm tree this morning but it is still rock hard from the roots of the tree. Then I got a great idea! I am turning that area into my fairy garden! It is near the street so people walking by will be able to enjoy it too! I will take pics when I finish it!

I think I need a nap now before work!!

I am in my second state park in a row where I am the only camper!! No water at either, but each did have a spigot where I could fill my tanks and the dump stations are working. So, as long as I have electric, satellite, and cell service, I am happy.

Got a ton of work to do, but I think I am going to stay a second night so I have time tomorrow to do some catching up. Got lots of groceries, as well.

took Shadow to the groomers today new place in town seemed to do a good job but she put bows in his hair instead of a bow tie or kerchief think she must have been out and just put the bows in for Thanksgiving one is out now so guess no pictures...thinking the heat is going to get turned on it is down to 62 inside and I am cold...
while he was at the groomers I went to grocery store then over to friends house and started the meat and onion turned it off and picked up Shadow took him home and stuck the air plants in something to soak up moisture for a few hours... then back in we enjoyed our dinner took so long to eat that we ended up not playing a game of dominoes think I will need to plan something lighter or have it ready to eat when we first get there... anyway they seemed to enjoy it...
now I need to pack up for my CA trip got to take the kennel it's cleaned off will take it out tomorrow and bungie cord it down. it's not been taken apart since I got Shadow... hopefully someone can figure out how to do it..
yes that heat needs to come on
safe travels to those traveling
the desert needs the rain as well they didn't get much in the summer time as I understand it.
if I was smart when I get back would go through stuff that I put on top of the kennel kinda get rid of stuff in one bin is a kit I bought while still living in Salt Lake City.... never been used supposed to be good for something
