Sunny and Cool Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunny and Cool Friday

Postby Colliemom » Fri Aug 30, 2019 8:32 am

Good Morning on a beautiful final Friday of August and thus beginning of the last holiday weekend of Summer. School bells will be raining here next week, although some have already started last week.

Wow. Velda, sounds like youare in business in the Van. Now you can be off whenever the mood strikes. Some green out of the pocket, but peace of mind and one generator not needing to go in for checkout. Barbie, are you drinking enough water and making sure you stay hydrated?

Guess the news of the day is what Dorian is going to do. I certainly hope our “sistahs” down there are making tracks north. I know some of you are. Looks like no safe place anywhere in this one as far as FL is concerned. It’s driving the forecasters nuts with all the wobbles and up and down wind velocities etc. it’s doing. Crazy storm. Glad I’m where it’s sunny and cool.

Need to run to town this morning to get prescription refilled and new piece of plastic glass cut for my trailer screen door since I accidentally cracked one yesterday. I cover the screen door with either removable vinyl or shrink window film in the fall. That allows me to keep my outside door open in the cooler weather or even running the AC. Can p easily remove when not needed. But this time, decided to put a soIid piece of plastic in lower half and leave it. Screen is getting loose and flimsy and a pain to redo. Getting things ready to head out again in about a week. Planted another tree in the yard and some yellow mums yesterday, so am caught up with yard work. Need to put coat of paint on a deck section, but need right kind of weather. Rained yesterday a bit, so have to wait for wood dry.

Time to quit rambling and move on. Have a great day everyone.

Sue, you are always so busy! I get worn out just reading your posts! I wish I had half of your ambition!!

Will be taking my Jeep in shortly to get an oil change and some other things looked at. Need to make sure everything is in good shape! It has been a really good car to me over the past two years and I need to take good care of it, especially when using it to tow Roxy. I have a friend following me over and taking me back so I can leave it there for the day.

My plan for today is to work on my bedroom and get that all organized and fixed up, then tomorrow work on the bathroom. I figure if I just concentrate on one room per day, it won't feel so overwhelming to get this place in order.

Sue, I might be a little dehydrated but I do drink quite a lot of water especially before I go to bed (which is why I have to get up in the middle of the night to pee). There are probably several possibilities to what caused me to go down yesterday. I will call today for an appointment.

Have a good day! :D

Yes I'm getting stuff done one issue at a time so rig is road ready with just addition of clothes and food and a few things I don't leave in there during hot weather. Thankfully I don't have to winterized here. Looking forward to several trips a year.
Barbara, make sure you are getting enough real salt, the type without its trace minerals stripped away, such as Real Salt or Himalayan Pink. Slightly out of balance minerals can cause symptoms. Sodium, magnesium, and potassium are the big 3 and they help balance each other and when one is being washed out by lots of fluids, the others follow. And, as I learned the hard way, eating a high carb diet retains fluids while still leaving minerals out of balance. I could keep symptoms at bay taking extra magnesium and potassium, but stopped the symptoms completely and lost the years of slight swelling in my legs, by dropping carbs. And you can have normal blood test and still have symptoms as the blood tests only what is currently circulating.
So looking forward to Pow Wow in October! Who bedsides Karen and I are still going? What do I need to plan for food, such as potluck or happy hour?
I've been sharing Sues concern for our sisters in Florida. Stay safe, don't wait until last minute!
I'm off to Curves, then get a few things done, then across town to a high school football game between the team a few blocks from me and Roseville's first high school. Should be exciting with two good teams and new found friends to cheer with.
Tomorrow breakfast with Lyn.
Have a safe weekend everyone, ESP Florida!

I don't think plain water will give you the hydration you need in the kind of heat there Barbie. Here are some homemade electrolyte drinks that sound good. Hope you are ok!! Opps forgot the link  https://www.lifehack.org/273097/4-homem ... -make-home

A while back I think I had posted that one day I was listing to the left when I walked. A strange feeling that I had never had before. I don't know what made me think I might have been dehydrated so started drinking more. It hasn't happened since. I guess if I hadn't done something I might have ended up on the floor. It's a good thing I don't have to limit my salt. I was eating with someone that commented on the amount of salt I used.

Today is fish day and I wanted to go to the post office so went to town again. I wanted to try a recipe so was trying to remember the ingredients I needed. I felt like there was something I couldn't remember. After I left the store I remembered I needed chicken, the main ingredient.

I would like to try to mow some more but it's 97. I hope it doesn't decide to rain again if I wait until it cools off a little.

And the good news is, Van fridge did indeed get cold overnight! So I believe except for having Mercedes replace a marker light and adjust door latch, I’m road ready! Yay!

Hi ladies~~~

Up near Door County, WI now with Eileen. Her DH will appear tomorrow.

As an FYI, when I worked for a doctor, he said the fast way to check if dehydrated is pinch the skin on the back of your hand. If it returns to shape quickly, you should be OK. If it stays tented, you are dehydrated. Also, check your urine. It should be pale yellow. The darker yellow it is, the more dehydrated you are.

I once read that most people are dehydrated... does that make me drink the amount that is recommended??? no way... and it is so easy to chug down a bottle or more... I even like water!!! it's just something I don't think to do..
made cinnamon rolls today planned on making chicken veggie chowder today... but decided that I was to tired.. I still have my house to clean up ... kids will be here tomorrow. will be good to see them even thought it has only been a couple weeks since I saw them...
right now vegging out on Friday night tv Hawaii 5o and Blue Bloods don't really like Magnum PI just not the same so might be a good time to do some cleaning or not

I got my car dropped off at the mechanic shop this morning. My friend, Candy, who gave me a ride home, invited me to her house for a bit. Well, "a bit", turned into 3+ hours! We started talking and realized we have a ton of things in common (including politics, religion, golf, animals, etc.!) so that was a very fun conversation! She is from Oregon and wants to get a little Class C to go back there in the summers to get away from the heat here.

Later, I got a call about my car and it needed some other work on it which I had asked them to check for me, like brakes and tie rods (I was having some steering issues lately). They worked with me on the cost so that was good. They weren't able to get it done until late this evening so I will have Candy take me back in the morning to pick it up.

Didn't get much else done today. Will have to make that up tomorrow. Need to get to Curves tomorrow since I couldn't go today and they are closed on Sunday and Monday.

I found out today that I have Hair Cut Kindergarten class on Tuesday and Wednesday next week so I need to get my "homework" for that finished before then. Apparently, my certificate from the last class I took, doesn't mean anything. At least I get paid for going.

I am still having issues with my laptop so I ordered a new one from Amazon today (which I had to order from my phone because it wouldn't work with my laptop. Keeps randomly changing screens on me while I am trying to do stuff on it.) So I should get that on Sunday.

Off to bed...

Dehydration can do funny things to people, especially as we get older. It can make us confused and also cause hallucinations.

But several of you who mentioned that you need to do more than drink water are 100% correct. In fact, there is such a thing as water intoxication because too much water causes you to lose electrolytes. My personal opinion is that the commercial stuff tastes awful, but you can water it down a bit. And good-old chicken soup is great for dehydration because it contains salt and other things. And juice with saltine crackers, which is what our mothers may have given us, has both the sugar from the juice and the salt from the crackers!
