Foggy U.P. Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Foggy U.P. Morning

Postby Colliemom » Tue Jul 02, 2019 7:18 am

Good Morning from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Cloudy and foggy a bit here this morning. Everything is damp from the heavy rain we had yesterday. But ready to come down just as we were ready to sit down for a nice turkey dinner at my friends sisters campsite. It rained so hard that the park was flooded in the few places here and there. My friends sisters husband cooked a turkey in a barbecue grill yesterday. He put the bird in a roasting pan and set it on the grill down in a deep kettle grill over charcoal and let it roast for 6 hours, basting it periodically. Boy was that bird brown and so good. Her kitchen de and grandkids packed up some of the food and took it back to their trailer, the rest of us stayed under the camper awning and ate in our chairs while the rain poured down. Been a mixed bag of weather here, from sunny and 80’s, to cloudy and 70’s and anything between. I’ve been out bumming a little and tomorrow have reservations to go over on Grand Island, part of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore for a tour.

Been trying to keep up with reading on here. Peggy, please say hi to CarolB for me. Miss her cheery posts. Gosh Judy, what a mess you are straightening out. Thank goodness for your other cousin helping out too. Like Barb said, time to decompress. Beth, sounds like your summer is going smoothly and you are able to have some time to yourself or act as a tour guide etc. and everyone else, glad to see you all posting on Rabbits day. Like O’Sharon, I can’t believe it’s July either. And Velda, glad you had a nice trip with the van. Once you get those repairs made, you can be off again. I had a couple minor fixes to do since I’ve been here too. One was a leaky low point drain valve under the trailer, which just need a new valve cap and the other was a warm fridge one morning :o ,which I attribute to my not getting the door closed tight enough the night before

Guess I should get a move on here, get dressed and take these two fur kids for their morning walk and decide where this day is going. Wishing you all a nice day out there.

Good morning Sue & everyone,

Sue, glad you're having such a good time camping with your friends. The barbecued turkey sounds wonderful!

I did say Rabbits yesterday and hope it works. I missed posting because yesterday was travel day and we safely arrived Casper WY about 1:30 in the afternoon after an almost 6 hour trip. The scenery between Deadwood and here was just amazing. It's so different than where we live on the east coast, as is the traffic. As Shirl said yesterday (as we don't live far from her), the traffic, especially this time of the year, is horrendous, and that's putting it mildly. It's so quiet out here!

I'm enjoying reading everyone's posts. Stay safe, wherever you are.

Of course, I forgot to say Rabbits. Mostly didn't know what day it was. I left Thursday for Mississippi GTG with members of RVW Heart of Dixie Chapter. We are having trouble getting this chapter going because it's Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. Louisiana members don't want to go to Georgia and most Georgia members don't want to come to Louisiana. We ended up with about 12 because one member brought some friends. I hate traveling on I-10. The road is terrible and so much construction. There weren't as many slow downs as last weekend but still a slow down on the Mississippi River bridge. I waited until yesterday to come back and the traffic was better. Good thing I had planned to wait until Monday because when I put the jacks up I had a flat on a rear tire. I tried airing the tire up but it wouldn't hold air. A couple of old guys told me I still had one tire so I could drive to the tire shop. I don't think so. I would rather be stuck at the campground than on the side of a road with no shoulder. A road side service came out and the tire valve was leaking so the tire was good.

Friday we went to the "antique" stores in town. I do have to say that they had the cleanest junk stores I have been in. Some places are so dusty I can't stay in them very long and I'm not usually an allergic person. One lady wanted to see the soccer game so we found a Mexican restaurant with a sports bar. The food was good but the service sucked. I guess they thought we would be there for 2 hours so weren't in any hurry. I hadn't eaten breakfast so I wanted my food. It started storming on the way back to the campground. When we got back one of the ladies was running to the bathroom with her dog so we thought maybe she knew something we didn't so we followed her. We spent an hour in the bathhouse until it stopped raining. There was wind damage in other areas but not in the campground. The weather for the rest of the time was good. Saturday, some of the women went tubing on a nearby river. I didn't go because I knew I would end up with a sunburn. The campground didn't have WiFi. It was too wooded to use the satellite and the only TV reception was 3 PBS channels, one with cooking, one with cartoons and one with mostly shows I had already seen. I need to put more reading material in the camper.

I wanted to get home before too late because I needed to pick up Hank. I had to bring the motorhome to the house and go back in my car. I was afraid one of us would break something trying to get him in and out of the motorhome. Good thing I decided to try to mow before dark because it is raining this morning.

Peggy, tell Carolb I said hi.

Good afternoon. Ended up having a bit of a busy morning. Went to Home Depot and got some stuff to repair my gutters (I hope). Also found a wasps nest while I was checking out where I need to repair it. So bought some wasp spray and shot em up good. The nest was small but those suckers are good at building bigger and better condos.

Stopped at the store for a couple of things..........yeah right $40 later I left LOL

Irmi glad you are having a good trip and seeing some wonderful parts of the country. I might have to get up that way next year as I havent been up there for years.

Going camping on Monday for 3 nights, after the holiday. Not quite sure what to expect as I joined a new group and guess there was some dissension somewhere along the line at the last campout at Cove Palisades and the admin of the group quit....sheesh
I am still going camping with them but I refuse to get involved so it might be my last camping trip with them but I am keeping an open mind.

Karen, I’m as baffled as anyone and I was at Cove. The group founder got up Monday morning and left without a word to anyone. The 4 of us still there were scratching our heads because the gal had promised to see us before she left , someone said she said her son called and she had to go but since one of the four of us remaining was in the campsite next to her and she still managed to sneak out, it’s very strange. Maybe you will learn more this weekend. Last I had heard I was talking to the gal about becoming a moderator so I messaged her and never heard back. I guess there may have been stuff behind the scenes we didn’t hear about . The rule was no men and there was one who insisted she could bring her husband and he would stay in their coach or not come to meetings but that’s all I heard.

Just got home.

Went for my interview at noon but wouldn't you know, I took a "short cut" and got lost and ended up late. I did call the manager once I got my bearings and told her I would be a little late getting there.
I like this manager much better and I like the location better. The other one was kind of in a residential area with not much around it. This one is right in the heart of Palm Desert, next to a shopping mall with tons of shops and restaurants around it. No one at the other shop even talked to me or said hi. The other stylist at this shop came up and introduced herself. And when I told the first manager that I like to pay attention to detail and cross check everything, she said I shouldn't waste my time with that because people just want to get in and out quickly. I told her that I have had a lot of customers thank me for taking the time to make sure their haircut looks good. (Maybe that is why she didn't want me at her shop! ). So I am on the schedule for next week, Weds, Thurs, and Friday. I have a short on-line course I need to do before then. She said I might be required to take the class again. I told her I took it just a year and a half ago so she is going to check.

Then I stopped at the mall for lunch and my Cinnabon roll! Love those! Did a little shopping at JCPenney, then headed to WM for a couple things and came home. While I was sitting at a red light, all of a sudden a huge street light fell over on the other side of the street! I then saw the car that hit it. I didn't see him run into it but the cop sitting in front of me at the light sure did! No other cars involved so this guy just randomly slammed his car into the light pole! Maybe be was celebrating the 4th of July a couple days early! :o

Still need to get into my shed and clean it out but it is just so dang hot out! 110* again. Just sucks the life out of me when I am out there! I woke up at 5:30 this morning and should have just gotten up then, but fell back to sleep til 8. That is the only time of day that is relatively cool out.

Martha, speaking of junk shops, I have been checking out different stores around here to see what they have and there is one not too far from me called "Treasure Hunt" so I checked it out last week. OMG!! It looked like a huge rummage sale that got hit by a tornado!! I have never seen such a chaotic mess in my life! It is a large store but there is no rhyme or reason or organization to anything there and much of the stuff was off the shelves and on the floors. It looks like they get stuff that other stores had that was either returned, broken, discontinued, etc, and this place tries to sell. And not cheap either! It was an ADD and OCD nightmare! I finally had to leave because I was getting an anxiety attack! Surprisingly it was pretty busy! I wonder how long they will be in business tho.

So Martha, aren't there snakes and alligators in those rivers?? And people are tubing in them??

Made it to Medford, OR. Will be here two nights and then staying at Emigrant Lake for a week, so if any of you nearby ladies want to meet for lunch, I am game.

I had my first good night's sleep last night on my way here. It is SO nice to be able to sleep in my own bed and have all my own things handy. Someone once posted on a forum somewhere asking if your RV felt like home when you were full-timing. Mine certainly does, and I think it would even if I were only part-timing!

New semester is starting so I have papers to grade tonight and this week, but I have a smaller class than usual, which is nice. And I have a couple of credit cards to cancel and need to check to see if my aunt and uncle's insurance will pay a couple of ambulance fees.

for being relatively busy I look around and think I sure didn't accomplish much.. did get the frig filled up cooler outside... a load of laundry done and several loads of my dd's folded... and the microwave cleaned out... birds fed...
and a couple rows on the afghan done and a page or two on the coloring site..... and of course a game or two on the phone or more so guess I've done more than I thought... cooling off a bit out to close the windows and or door...
sil went up on the top to see if all was ok up there and it was... I'd asked him to too see if there was a cause for the sound I heard the other night not up there either... but he said that he found a dead crow not too far away... guess it's possible that the crow dove at something and hit the 5th wheel hard enough that he only got a ways away...
funny thing happened today I'd called my niece to get the names of someone that goes to places to do mani's so today I text my sister asked for her address and name of the facility she is in... she text it back to me.... I don't do any shopping on line it frankly scares me to give people my debt card number on line so I've been struggling to call and talk to someone about doing this mani... so sister sends me a text thank you I am crying my reply back was why I didn't do anything yet... back to me yes you did they said your name oh well what did I do that I didn't do sent me a picture of food not me I didn't do it as I haven't made any calls ect told her I am apprehensive about giving the card number to someone over the phone... it was a pork dim sum dish that was delivered to her... she enjoyed and has no idea who sent it to her... now I need to makes some calls and see about doing a mani for her...just need to get over not wanted to give out that card number...cause how do I know that the person will go????
you all have a good day

Sheila, if you get a referral from someone you trust, that should be good. That is a nice thing to do for your sister! :D

The "Treasure Hunt" sounds like a store around here called Dirt Cheap. It looks like they buy out stuff from other stores. The clothes are about Dollar Store quality but priced way too high. I don't have the patients to dig through all that stuff. Another store like that is Ollies. I went in there when it first opened and couldn't get out of there fast enough. I had picked up something but the cashier in the line I was in didn't know what he was doing and it was taking forever. I put what ever I had down and left.

Yes, there are snakes and alligators in most water around here. The women that were kayaking last week and tubing this campout didn't see any snakes or alligators. One campout they had a bunch of chairs in the creek that was only about a foot deep. There were about 15 women sitting in the creek and ever so often you would hear screaming and running because someone saw a snake. I only tried it once and a rope touched my leg. I freaked out. lol All the beaches are closed from here to Florida because of flesh eating bacteria. My sister's granddaughter was stupid enough to go and get in the water. My sister was telling me she has an eye infection. I said "You don't think she might have caught something at the beach."

Sheila, i would never give a debit card number out as they are not covered by federal agencies insurance where credit cards are covered . If something happens and the card is compromised a credit card is protected. I am more comfortable putting my cc number on line because humans don’t see or have the chance to steal it, where if you hand someone the card then n a store, you don’t know If that person made a copy to use. Only times my card was compromised, it was lost off a computer system at a store but my credit union caught it before any charges were made and replaced the card.

Barbie
my niece googled the information for me so she really doesn't know the people either
Velda
I don't have a credit card some times I wish I did... but dd suggested that I get a Visa gift card and have the amount be what it would cost for the mani plus a tip... that way if someone steals the information they won't get anything
I still need to make the phone calls and see what I can do it might be too expensive to do anyway

The Visa gift card would be a good idea. Hope it works out to get her the manicure.
