Thursday D-Day 2019

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Thursday D-Day 2019

Postby IrishIroamed » Thu Jun 06, 2019 9:30 am

i ladies~~~
Lots of historical significance today. Quite alot on the news with different ceremonies. Today is also:
June 6, 2019 – D-Day – NATIONAL HIGHER EDUCATION DAY – NATIONAL EYEWEAR DAY – NATIONAL YO-YO DAY – NATIONAL DRIVE-IN MOVIE DAY – NATIONAL GARDENING EXERCISE DAY – NATIONAL APPLESAUCE CAKE DAY
So, something for everyone to celebrate I guess.

Truck is being taken in on Monday. Expected repair time is 3 weeks. Adjuster for the trailer just left and will compare against what the dealer in Lincoln, NE found. Looks like the trailer repair is just about half of the trailer value, so a new one is looking more in the picture. Still some thinking to do.

Rain. And flooding is still a problem in alot of places. Pretty nice at Camp Dads Driveway. Rain expected Sunday, but at least the temp & humidity have dropped.

Have a good day ladies and stay safe wherever you are.

I think I'll celebrate National Applesauce Cake Day. lol My mother would send me applesauce cakes when I was in college. It was kind of like a fruit cake.

It stormed all night until about 8:00 this morning. I forgot that the vent was open in the camper and I was afraid I would have a mess. It's covered by a Maxx Air Vent but I have had rain blow in but it was ok. I think the local weather was on all night. Sometime during the night they were talking about a possible tornado to the West of me. There hasn't been any reports of damage. Now there is a tornado watch to the East of me. There is a lot of street flooding in Lafayette. Good thing my appointment for today was changed because I don't think I could have made. The 6" rain gauge is running over. Guess I won't be mowing for a while.

Cheryl, hope all the repairs work out in your favor. You have really had the year from hell.

Martha

I just looked out in the pasture and I thought there were 4 people on 4 wheelers. It's 4 cows with a white bird standing on each one. Think I need new glasses? lol

Martha, we are going to send you a little more rain, I think tonight. Yesterday some spots about 30 miles north of us here near Huntsville, TX, got 7” of rain in about 2-3 hours. We only got a measly 2”. We should get more this evening and then will send you the left overs. Cheryl, you should have just stayed in TX for another month. Then you would have missed all the crazy stuff happening to you. Best of luck on your rig decision and getting you truck fixed! Velda, looks like you will be hitting the road in a few days. Have a lot of fun and be safe. Will look forward to following your adventures. Beth it looks like you and Linda might be drying out soon. All the rest of you, keep having fun and be safe on the road.

I just got back from town and the Vermilion River is out of its banks. I didn't see any street flooding but I bet some of the side roads are under water. The weather channel says we have an 80% chance of rain tomorrow. All this rain is not helping with the flooding Carolyn might be facing. I don't know what the latest is on opening the spillway.

I am making another strawberry pie. This will be the 3rd one in about a month. Maybe I can burn myself out on them.

Incredibly sunny today, but rain tonight, they predict. I am leaving tomorrow, so will have to drive through rain, I expect. I really enjoy this campground, watching the boats go by. Just watched a big Naval ship come through with three tug boats escorting it!

The lawyers are confident we can do a lot of stuff from a distance. The paralegal is sending the POA documents to the assisted living place and giving them to facility management and the doctor who is seeing them today. Even though the documents have not been approved by a judge, they at least let doctors and others know that we are family and are trusted by our relatives, and these were all done in 2012 when they were competent. Also she had us sign something to get locks changed in both Florida condos. Bank accounts have locks on them as well. Plans are to have mail sent to a bonded CPA and have him/her pay all bills, make deposits, and provide us with a monthly report. We will still need to go down there later this summer or in the fall, to clean out personal items from one condo and check on rental condo, so both can be sold. Will need to do a thorough search for hidden cash, as they are cash hiders! Other niece said her late mother even hid money in teddy bears, so we will have to tear the place apart!!

Did I mention we will eventually also have to clean out a 7,000 square foot house in the mountains of Georgia?????? This one is stuffed, although realtor did an excellent job of putting clutter away in boxes and hiding them in closets. She also had place cleaned, but we will want to get valuables and things like family photos to keep and distribute to cousins. It is up for sale, but will take a long time to sell because it is in neighborhood with much less expensive places. Whew!

Judy, it makes me tired just reading the details of trying to problem solve and put supports in place to protect your Aunt and Uncle and their properties and things. Like Malia, I am not sure that the slow fade into old age is something that I want to contemplate. I am so thankful that my father and step mother streamlined the legal stuff. Then again they didn't have all that much to work with to make it very complicated. I think the best thing my dad did was place property and stock and monies into Trusts. The Trusts were pretty simple to deal with at that point. That and there were no cars left in either of their names. I can only imagine the amount to time and energy you are spending communicating back and forth to multiple individuals sorting out the sharing the details.

The thing is that most people have only to deal with one house for elderly parents--we have three! (Unless you had to do it with two divorced parents, I guess, but that would be a real mess.) The only good thing is that the one condo is a rental unit on the beach, and we can just leave it furnished as it is. They have rented it out 3-4 months of the year, so there are absolutely no personal belongings there. It should sell very easily and quickly. The condo they lived in occasionally in Florida will require mostly a search for hidden cash. They did bring some photos and stuff from Georgia, but we can sell that furnished once we get it searched and personal stuff removed. It is the big house in Georgia that will be the biggest task.

I don't know if I ever mentioned this, but one thing I did with my mother because I had to travel for work and could not go over to her independent living and later memory care place, was to hire a spy. Basically, there was a lady who for a very reasonable amount would go over to visit my mother as a "friend" and make sure she was being cared for well. When I had to be out of town, she would go every day and email me the results.

I told my kids they should be eternally grateful that they won't have a mess to clean up after me since I have already downsized.

woke up to thunder so decided to quick like take Shadow out before it got bad... then crawled back into bed for no good reason than I wanted to. Have a garbage can that I keep by my chair and when it's time to move I load it with stuff that I don't know what to do with so went through it today put stuff away now it's a garbage can again...
watched Dr Phil today at the end he honored a captain of the firefighters working on the campfire fire...
they told a story about the women who had just given birth at the hospital when they had to evac... soon they had to evac the ambulance because of the tires melting happened to be right where this captain was... he was able to get into a house through a doggie door and got everyone in and fought the fire from there all lived and the house survived. I am sure there was more to it than that but this was the reader's digest version
it's chilly today and rainy and just not a fun day... trying to put in my 3 rows have done 1+ guess I will get to it again in a bit...
need to capture one of my grandkids think they were all held up in there rooms put in a sd card into my phone and since I don't know how to use it I am still "dangerously low on space" low enough that because Fishdom wants to update and I don't have the space I haven't been able to play that game so irritating ... either that or I didn't get a big enough SD card
off tomorrow to mom's I think daughter hasn't made it home yet but she had an appointment after work then of course stop to see the baby but had thought she would be home by now... assume I am going over
though

Sheila, I remember that story about the pregnant woman during the fire. Was really remarkable!
This morning I woke to sunshine coming in my window. Too early for heat. Closed the blinds later and it was fine. Some people just like a dark room.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
