Wednesday, my phone says

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Wednesday, my phone says

Postby SoCalGalcas » Wed Jun 05, 2019 10:39 am

Good morning from Casper, WY. I am making very good time, even driving at my personal speed limit of 60 mph. In Montana, the speed limit was 80 mph, and semis, 65 mph. HA! What a farce, they spead by me and ere out of sight very fast!
I stopped and toured the Little Big Horn battle site, NPS very diplomatic in their writings of the battle. Quite interesting to see the actual area where the battle took place. Quite hilly with steep hills. Beautiful where the Indians were camped.
Traveling in the spring is fun because of all the babies with their mothers. Both wild and cattle.
While searching for my classical music station, hear another sniped from, should have been called dumb crooks. A Russian man flew into Toranto. Customs caught him attempting to smuggle into Canada, 10,000 LEECHES!!!! Why, in the world?
Went into a parking lot of a hospital to spend the night. Got kicked out at 8 PM. Recommended to go to an Indian campground. Didn’t like the looks so drove down to asheridan. Spent the night with five other RV’s, under the No Campinh Allowedsigns with no problem! That was a rest area.
Now stopped in Casperfor a rest and to post. Enjoy your day. Lyn

Glad you found a place to spend the night, Lyn, and sorry to hear you have to go back to work, Queen and Mary, but the piper does need to be paid! And Karen, I will be arriving at Armitage on Monday, which is exactly when you will be leaving, I am guessing.

I spent several hours on the phone yesterday with lawyers admins and the other niece of my aunt and uncle. A&U refused to sign POA to invoke it, so I still have no control. In meantime, law firm in Georgia sent stuff to law firm in Florida, which is trying to gather up as many old bills and undeposited checks as they can to straighten out financial mess. Also income tax was not filed for 2017 and 2018, so they are trying to find forms for that. What a mess! Anyway, they are in assisted living, but aunt thinks she was abducted and is staying in a large hotel along the freeway. Uncle is much worse, physically and mentally, and law firm is trying to get A to sign paperwork so they can at least get bills paid and old checks deposited. We all have no idea what cousin has done and are concerned about withdrawals, but there is now a freeze on their investments and bank accounts, at least. I asked them to try to get locks changed on the two condos down in Florida, so cousin cannot get access. We suspect they have stashed cash there. Apparently, jewelry has been put in law office safe and old condo administration safe. Whew!

And Fort Flagler State Park is on an island. Camp host came around last night and told us we would be without power from 8 am to 2 pm today, as power to whole island is shut down. One BIG advantage of RVs is that we have batteries and other stuff, but while my generator works, it is not getting power to motorhome. Got appt for it to be fixed on Monday at Cummins factory service back in Eugene.

It was 97 here just after noon! Toasty week for northern California ! I went to Curves but won't o out to van until evening due to heat.
Lyn leeches are often sold to be used medically, which might be one reason. Sounds icky but it works well on certain conditions. Startling first time I saw them used, but now I understand it and agree its one option if needed. Freaks families out though!
Mandy continues doinf well in her room at UCD.
Judy I sure hope the good side prevails to protect your Aunt and Uncle as you have tried. What a mess.
I have under 10 days until I can officially report in from on the road!
Have a good day all.

I was on a roll today. I got my blood work done, got Hank's pills at Petsmart, went to TJ Maxx, the dentist and Target. It has been raining off and on all day but not the flooding rain they predicted yet. There is still a lot in the Gulf to come onshore. I got one of the smaller air fryers to try. I wanted one to bring in the camper if I like it. I was suppose to go to the lawyer's office tomorrow but they put it off until next week. I would like to get that over with to see if there is any money left after the IRS gets what they want. Inheritance tax is just a ripoff as far as I'm concerned. You have already paid tax on everything you own.

When I was at Petsmart their adoption room was full of kittens. There was one that looked like CC and when he saw me he started crying. I had to go pet him then he didn't want me to leave. I hope they find good homes.

I need to go feed the barn cats if it will quit raining for a few minutes.

Had a good trip up to Eugene today. Now settled in a very nice big spot. Judy, yes you will be coming and I will be going LOL too bad.

Martha most states did away with inheritance tax except for these six states.
States with an inheritance tax
The federal government does not have an inheritance tax. The six states that impose an inheritance tax include Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Nebraska, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Of course, state laws are subject to change, so if you are receiving an inheritance, check with your state's tax agency. The tax rates on inheritances can be as low as 1 percent or as high as 20 percent of the value of property and cash you inherit.

Velda, I was pretty busy today loading and then a long walk for the dog when we got here and settled. My Fitbit lost it's mind. Happy your getting out on the road, I hope you have a great time.

Had to replace batteries in my Fantastic Fan remote control but the fan still isnt working right so will need to get that fixed for sure. Batteries in both my remote controls. I thought I might have to replace a battery in one of my tire pressure sensors but I took it off and put it back on and it finally registered on the monitor.

Heading to Albany tomorrow to meet up with Laura, we are going to the FMCA rally, just for the day. We want to meet some of the people in the clubs they have in our area. Then of course lunch will be on the agenda ha ha

Well time to take the pup out for a "short" walk. My feet are tired.

Karen, fan in van wasn't working and I thought it was going to mean a big repair. Turned out heat and time had deteriorated the pop together connectors so it wasn't getting power. My friend Sean took off the cover inside the rv, reached up to check wires and pieces of plastic rained down! I ran to my supplies and got new connectors, he trimmed wires, crimped on connectors, plugged them together, turned switch on, fan started spinning. Just saying it could be something that simple.

Busy day for me. Went to get some things taken care of at the office at the park this morning. Then went to the house. Turned on the electricity, air conditioning, and water, took all the insulation stuff off the windows that they had put on there to keep it cooler in there while it was vacant, cleaned the freezer and fridge, and took down the curtains in the bedroom. Put up one valance so far. It already looks so much brighter in there now tho with the dark curtains off the windows. One window had a printed shade, half inch thick styrofoam pad, closed blinds, and double thick room darkening curtains on it! :o And that window has a big awning over the outside of it. She must really have not liked the morning sun coming in! I definitely want to downsize the bed from a queen to a full since it is pretty tight in the bedroom with the queen. There is about a foot and a half of space on either side of the bed and about a foot of space between the end of the bed and the built-in dresser.

Later, went to Walmart, Home Depot and the grocery store and back to the house. Bought two hibiscus plants for the front of the house. A red one and a yellow one.

I am back at the motel and will stay here one more night. Will bring Lola to the house tomorrow for our official move-in. Then start purging stuff from the drawers and cabinets. Can't put my stuff away until those are all cleaned out. Then start bringing stuff home from the storage units.

The park is very quiet right now with most of the residents back to their northern summer homes for the season. I practically have the whole park to myself! I guess there are about 50 people who are there year round but I haven't seen them yet, altho it is a huge place!

It was sunny and about 105* today. I can tolerate it as long as I don't have to move around too much in the heat. The AC works great in the house!

Lyn, too bad you aren't traveling thru Montana or I would suggest the campground in Bozeman I stayed at. Have a safe trip home! Any fun stops planned along the way?

Martha, I was sure you were gonna say you brought a kitten home with you!!

Judy, what a hassle with your aunt and uncle! So frustrating! Reminds me that I need to get a will and POA done soon. I was thinking of willing everything to a ferret shelter! That would really piss off my brothers!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Barbie, don't think I'm not thinking about that kitten. I just can't have anymore cats. I am feeding about 20 if I count the ones that come to eat that I don't claim.

Karen, I hope you are right about not owing any tax. We had to pay about $60,000 when Harold's mother passed away. I was able to transfer the estate income to my 2018 return because it was a lower rate. I don't remember what they told me the tax rate would be for the estate.

It started really raining after I got home and my TV and internet has been going off and on.

Barbie, your description of the drapes brought back memories of my mother-in-law 40 years ago. Each of her bedrooms had two windows, and each window had, starting from the glass moving forward: pull-down shades, light see-through drapes, heavier lined drapes, narrow tie back drapes that were just for decoration, and a valence! I am surprised that the walls did not fall over with all the weight. It took forever to get through all the layers if you wanted some light in. She also had a carpeted bathroom, but that is another story!!!

And go for the ferret rescue, unless you have a deserving niece or nephew. Or maybe great-niece or great-nephew who could use some money for college some day or to escape his or her parents.

I am just glad to have law firms dealing with my aunt. She can get really, really nasty at times, and the dementia is making her very difficult to live with as she is becoming paranoid, much like happened with my mother. So far, the lawyers have been very supportive and confident that the other niece and I can handle things remotely once we get legal clearance. Key thing right now is to get things protected and get the finances under control.

And I also need a POA. I am hoping to have enough time to spend my 401K before I leave this planet, however. In fact, I have been watching the big cruise ships round the island I am camped on, heading from Seattle to Alaska. Some of the last-minute fares are really cheap, so I am getting the cruise to Alaska bug! Maybe fall 2020??

Judy, the cruise to Alaska is the only one I would like to do. Well, maybe the Panama Canal. I think the Sisters on the Fly have one to Panama coming up in January. I have done 2 to Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel and I am done with that. If I went to Jamaica again I wouldn't get off the boat.

Barbie, there may be a reason for all those heavy curtains and insulation on the windows in your new home. Maybe you should save what you took down until summer is over!
Judy I hope you can continue to handle your Aunt and Uncles difficulties long distance!

Martha, I had to chuckle at your cruise experience. I went on a similar cruise to some of the same spots. I got off the boat in Jamaica and got right back on in a short period of time. You can have Jamaica as far as I am concerned. Unless you go stay in one of the resorts and never leave you could feel safe. But then you can just go to Florida LOL

I took the cruise to Alaska and the scenery was awesome. I concluded tho, I am not a cruise kinda gal. I would rather fly there, find my own lodging and explore on my own. We were in port such a short period of time. My favorite city was Sitka. You can keep Juneau.

Judy some don't like them but I use the automatic pay for all but one bill... it seems like that would be something to consider although I don't know how it would work with utilities but something to look into

Barbie - BJ is right. You are even deeper into the desert than I am. We all need to prevent the sun from shining in during the hot summer months. I always thought windows with insulated foil, cardboard, or heavy drapes, etc. looked so tacky! But now my RV has foil covering windows most of the time and my house has insulated drapes on east windows even though I have awnings on the outside! First year living in a desert area is an eye opener and we learn how to adapt. Have fun fixing up your new digs. You always make your nest pretty and inviting. Evie
