Seems like a good time to change doctors! Sounded like he is pretty RUDE!! Has he been your Dr. for a long time?

Rotten medical advice...leave him at the curb and find a new doc...only you really know how you feel!! ;)

I agree with the others! With how your kids feel, is it possible they could have talked to him before your appointment & exaggerated or somehow influenced what he said?

Kathleen, find another doctor. If we had taken to heart what the doctor was telling us, Chuck would not have lived another 7 years. Most of those 7 years, we still RV'ed and went places we wanted to go. We were just a little slower some times.

That's what I was thinking too.

I was wondering that also. But I'm also hoping we aren't overwhelming you with our very strong feelings. Just know that we are on YOUR side. And please don't let the negatives from both your kids and the doctor pull you down. Instead let the positives of your friends here pull you up, UP And UP.

Kath - maybe time to call your other lady back in for a family meeting
From your post earlier this week
"Yesterday I had a planned visit from a lady from PATH she is an in home senior counselor... I have been so concerned about family wanting me to sell things even my motor home and get rid of my Shadow... she is qualified to evaluate a person and see if they need to make a move... well as those of you that know me she found no reason for me to make a change... now to get this across to my loving children... they have my best interest at heart and are not mean spirited in any way... The counselor will meet with all of us if the need arises... I have a doctor appointment tomorrow and will also ask his input he has known me for over 10 years... "
Perhaps she could also provide copy of her evaluation to your doctor.
I agree with Liz - don't let the negatives get you down (I've been there, done that, not good). And YES we all want what is best for you.

I just lost my first reply so starting over...grrr Kathleen, I completely agree with the others..I think I would look for a woman DR. I have a husband and wife team and I see both of them...it's the best arrangement I've ever had.
My advice is to listen to your body...you are not anywhere near ready to sit down and wait to die...Okay, maybe you will get back out there and have days you don't won't to move so just stay until you feel better...I'll bet you could get with any number of us from time to time and travel together...
Now, I was really shocked with them thinking you should get rid of your Shadow...Do they not read and listen to the benefits of a pet? I know they love you and are thinking of your welfare but they are wrong!

I do so appreciate every one of you those seen and those unseen... Over the years I have learned to love my rv friends some are closer than family... The lady from PATH will call me back after Thanksgiving... I will ask her to help me get a family meeting set up...
As for my doctor I do trust him and he was speaking totally from a clinical view... I under stand what he was and is saying... that does not mean that will be the end answer though... oh yes this colored his view he has a father in his 70s also and he drives to FL... my doctor does not feel anyone 'old' should drive... ha ha ha
I do have a female dr for rheumatology she is good... I will see her again in Jan...
As for now I will let my daughter and her friend try to sell the things I never use that is fine with me... this winter I have some health issues that I will take care of... this will also give me time to think things out...
When spring comes I will again drive my Bright Hope and Shadow will be by my side...
Thank you my dear friends...
Kathleen
Oh yes I would rather die beside the road than sitting here in my chair...

Kathleen,I fully understand your dr, not thinking we should be on the road. Heart dr.out in Co that my son took me to, it was all over him , actions ,tone of voice And he flat out told me I should be driven home and stay there. He was a young Asian dr and I'm sure the thought of a woman my age traveling the roads alone was more then he wanted to comprehend. Poor fella. My son and I had a chuckle over it. Thank goodness my son and DD still think I am quite capable, not that I don't hear warnings and unasked for advice at times :D . But they do understand that I don't really feel alive unless I'm on the road and able to visit friends and see our country. It is different for me, no family here, I do have to travel to see my family.

I do hope and think right now that I will know when I do need to stay off the roads for the sake of other drivers , families. I pray I can admit this to myself when that time is here. I am I think a wee older then you, but my health issues until this past yr. have not been of a serious nature, for which I am so Thankful for.

I will be praying for you that your family conference will help , taking our pleasure in life away , is very bad. But also as I said we need to face the stage of life we've reached too, for me think that is going to be hard, But such is this life !!

It will all work out !!!! My Motto for years, & "our life is what we make it ". This past yr have had to add another, "we just have to accept what is"

Good grief, Kathleen-----all of us are as good as we will ever be today, if you wish to look at life that way. Aging has its little wears and tears on the body, and staying the best we can be is a job for all of us once we are past 50! I prefer to think of us as staying as good/well/happy as we can be for years and years! And you can do the same-----screw that pessimistic doc! Life is meant to be enjoyed, so let's live it like that! If your kids are worried about you, do you suppose they may have gotten to the doc and made him promise to say something stupid like that to you? All kids worry about their parents when they get older than they think is old! :)

Anyway, I expect to see you down the road in your rig another year!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

Good for you Kathleen! I often wonder what these younger people will here to say when they get older, are they just going to curl up in a ball and evaporate?
Your doctor is on a downhill slide too, he just doesn't know it yet

Well said. And what I've been thinking, too. Funny how they think many of us are too old to do what we are doing, etc - but wouldn't it be fun to see them in a few years ...
