They may try and convince you they will starve but believe me, they're way too smart. they WILL eat if they get hungry. My friend left her dog with me for seven days - said he wouldn't eat dry food unless she fed him by hand. Bull Pucky! Yes, he didn't eat anything the first day. By the end of the second day when I put the food down he started eating it. He learned that if he didn't eat I would give him about fifteen minutes then the food went away until the next meal time. Dogs are smart people, smarter than a lot of their hoomans.

With Beneful...check what the first ingredient is? Is it a protein? And try to avoid the corn stuff. The companies often use corn and some of the other grains as fillers to cut down their costs....

I know it's not great food - and the first ingredient is corn. Karen - we left them at a kennel and Oscar went over 4 days without eating. They were on the verge of calling my vet. I know he will eventually eat but he's stubborn. However, reading some of the complaints against Beneful and two of the symptoms - fungal and yeast ear infections and the weakness in the hind legs are symptoms that Oscar has. He always seems to have an ear infection and recently he's having trouble jumping up. I thought it was just old age. But I'm willing to try something different. I just hope he is as well.

And yes, he is a smart dog and has had over 9 years to train me.
