Rainy Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Rainy Saturday

Postby dpf » Sat Jun 16, 2012 9:55 am

It's raining and we need it so badly! I have the patio door open and enjoying the smell and I'm positive that I'm hearing every blade of grass saying "ahhhhhhhh"! I know that rain puts a damper on every one's weekend plans but it's been so dry and windy that the fire hazard was getting extremely high.

Not sure what is on my plans for today. Whatever they are I'm going to have to stick close to home because it's my day to play on call Nurse Ratched for my friend/neighbor Karen. She had breast cancer 21 years ago and decided that she was going to have reconstructive surgery this summer. It was a rather complicated surgery as it started out with a mastectomy on her remaining breast and the relocation of several muscles. Monday she was in surgery for over six hours and came home yesterday. Last night her daughter stayed with her but she's in a wedding today and has to leave shortly. Her husband is in county law enforcement and a neighboring town has an annual celebration that requires saturation so he won't really be off call until late Sunday. Since I work during the week and the rest the the helping hands are either teachers or retired I'll take the weekend and they'll take the week days. She's going to have about an eight week convalescing period where she can't do any lifting etc. I'm just hoping that she doesn't get swamped with visitors because last night when I ran over for a few minutes to water etc she was beat from riding home from the hospital. I stayed long enough to put both my phone numbers on her speed dial and left. She wants me to wash her hair sometime this weekend....that I can do, but I'm not much of a stylist! I had suggested before she went in to the hospital that she shave her head....she whacked me across the head and told me that she'd had enough of being bald when she went through chemo!

Wishing everyone a wonderful day and safe travels to those who are lucky enough to be on the road.

So glad you are getting the rain you need and that you will be able to help your friend. It's great that you are going to wash her hair. That is so relaxing to have someone wash your hair so I know she will enjoy it. You deserved the hit on the head for telling her to shave her head. LOL.

Hope you didn't have to tend to your friend's drains. My sis had her reconstruction at the same time she had her double mastectomy. She claimed that all those situps paid off - she had perky boobs!

I spent time with my friend with Stage 4 breast cancer this evening. She's in the hospital with pneumonia and all of us, including her sister, are afraid this may be the beginning of the end. I hate cancer!

And to top things off, my A/C still isn't fixed. The compressor is shot and he can't order the part until Monday and no telling when it will be in. I told my friend I came to see her because it was cold in her hospital room!!! :D

We got her hair washed today...and I didn't even come close to drowning her. Her "do" after I finished blow drying it was less than desirable but she was just happy to have it washed. She is in quite a bit of pain but her sense of humor is still intact. Even mentioned that she was going to have perky boobs for the rest of her life because silicone lives forever and that I'd be hanging down to my waist in a couple of years. I waiting until she's feeling better to bop her across the head!

Haven't had to help with the drains, her brother who is a RN and a nurse anesthetist is staying with her tonight so he'll help her with that. Another neighbor is a public health nurse and she said she'd come over and help her with the drains too...so I don't think I'll be on duty for that chore. People have been bringing over food, but mainly sweets which aren't tasting good to her at all right now. Tomorrow I'm going to go get her some fresh veggies and cut them up and make some dip. I'm more than happy to do the Hilda Hausfrau type stuff....I was never cut out to be a nurse. We've already put changing sheets and laundry on the Monday night agenda. She's missing her dog Max immensely...he staying with her MIL. Actually Radar is getting pretty lonely for him too.
