Saturday morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Saturday morning

Good Morning all,

How's your Memorial Day weekend shaping up out there? Mine's gonna be at work. Have to get used to having all these people aroundafter two months of quiet with a few folks once in awhile, so will be a busy weekend. Supposed to have some record high temps in the upper 80's as well, but Mom Nature looks to put a damper on the day tomorrow with Showers and Thunderstorms. Oh well, can't have everything. I'm sure the firefighters who are battling two fires in the Upper Peninsula are wishing for a deluge. The one fire is in the Seney National Wildlife Refuge and has burned over 3,000 acres so far but is 70% contained. The other is more east of that one and so far has consusmed over 20,000 acres. At the moment it is the third largest forest fire in the last 140 years in MI, and if it keeps going, which it will, it will become the largest. It's only about 10% contained, the wind keeps shifting and changing it's direction etc., It's foreced the evacuation of a number of homes and cottages up in that area and also the Lower Falls Campground of Taquahmenon Falls State Park and the Falls veiewing area trails, as well as blankeing the Eastern U.P. with smoke. Not a great start to a holiday weekend. That area is a mix of swamps, jack pines forest and hardwoods. Part of that fire has burned to the Lake Superior shoreline. Both started by lightening.

Sounds like the AK group are making progress slow but sure and last I read, were facing what might be a bit of snow in the Mts. of Montana. Such an adventure. Wish I were along as I know others do as well. Safe and enjoyable travels to you ladies.

As for me, well, I will be taking care of our visitors, answering questions, giving out info and probably laying down the law as well. Already had one camper move a boat and trailer which was parked in an area that was not for parking yesterday. But it's fun having all the folks around too. That's what the park is for.

So, I want to wish you all a very enjoyable Memorial Day weekend whether you are out on the road, sitting in a camground somewhere, with family or just by yourself. Enjoy the start of summer everyone.

GOOD MORNING SUE AND ALL!

Warning: this is long!

Thursday afternoon I hauled back here to my own house in the mountains, and was horrified and so discouraged to see what a house unoccupied for many months looked like! I was sick. The lawn was knee-high, bags of recyclables piled on the porch aong with wood chips and saw dust from the few days the kids did stay here this winter, mouse poops everywhere, plastic bins all over the house floors, filled with lord-knows-what they are trying to organize and help me sort through, dust piled so high on everything it was fluffy, torn-up-in-spots kitchen linoleum exposed again for the first time since my long-dead dogs were puppies and tore it up while I was at school, no refrigerator, flithy bathrooms from standing water, a washing machine that no longer shuts off the water coming into it, even when it shuts off, abandoned refrigerator sitting on lawn, tall grass going to seeed everywhere----my impression was trailer trash city! (Sorry for the expression----the only nice thing on the property was my travel trailer which I manage to get leveled and hooked up after a long battle with phones, Direct TV, outside house faucet leaks, getting my hand stuck in the vent fan over my stove while trying to pull the coaxial cable through the opening in there-----SIGH!)

The telephones, 4 of them cordless, lost their connectivity after the power pole burned and shut down all the power, and I needed a phone to call Direct TV for my service. Reading the phone manual written in chopped English, translated from Korean, or some eastern language, was a ball of fun! My daughter, the college professor, had tried for over an hour this past winter to restore them, and failed, so I tackled the job with some misgivings. HOWEVER----I finally did get one working, called Direct TV as my satellite receiver goes dormant after 6-7 months of disuse, and got a million choices, none of which I wanted, to opt for by pushing buttons. By the time I got a really nice agent on the phone I was at the end of my rope, screaming, and my patience (poor at best) was at an all-time taut, voice-stressing and yelling position. He immediately activated my receiver, and wanted to talk shop about options I qualify for with Direct TV----all I wanted to do was come out here to the trailer, turn it on, and bury my head and sob! I told him I hated my plan with them, as I don't like movies, sports, foreign channels, most of the music channels, and that I watch about a grand total of 10 of the channels EVER, but that now was not a good time to discuss this. He was on his way to Orlando, driving, and when he found out I had just come from there, wanted to talk more. Nice as he was, and calm as he was, I was just as not nice and not even close to calm, so he sensed it would be best to let me go!

When the kids got here, late in the afternoon, they found me sobbing and couldn't understand why. They felt as if I was accusing them of not keeping my house up, which, I suppose I was, in a way. But with a house of their own about 2 hours away, a new baby, Mandy's teaching job, Joe's courses he took to become a house inspector, stresses of it all, of course they did the best that they could after the lightning strike that caused all the problems. Joe called his friend to come and help him move the new (their old one, but relatively new) refrigerator off his pickup and into the kitchen. He battled with getting the water for the ice-maker hooked back up while Mandy hefted all the bins into the cellar and I took Orion out to the trailer here. I asked how on earth they could think this place would be ok for company and the first big barn party of the year on Sunday???? I told them it should be condemned and burned to the ground.

Amazingly enough, by late Thursday night, after hours of vacuuming, mopping, dusting, shucking stuff around, the house was able to have a place to sit down and relax!

They had to go to Plattsburgh yesterday morning to pick up Weldon and Melissa who flew in from Orlando and landed at 9 am. I stayed with the dogs, monitored the washing machine while I did a load of my clothes, a load of towels and a load of sheets, made the guest bed for Goog and Melissa, and tried to get the lawn mower started, which I KNEW would never go through this hay field lawn. No luck with my still sore ribs and all that pulling. After the other kids got here, things really got into motion, even though they had been up since 3am the night before! Melissa helped put the party food away in the now-working refrigerator, Weldon got a leak in the ice-maker line stopped, got my lawn mower started for me, got my motorcycle up and running, I managed to mow most of the lawn, totally amazed that it actually cut the hay, although the "self-propelled" mower is no longer self propelled, so today my arms are feeling like dead things attached to my shoulders. Joe got a call from his cousin who needed his help gutting and packaging his cow he just killed and was lying on his lawn (the kids get a cut of the meat for his help) and he had just gotten back from chain-sawing down a tree in his parents' yard and bringing the wood back here to the barn for the campfire on Sunday. In between and all around were 4 dogs who needed feeding, a baby who needed care, a party barn that still needs attention, burger patties to make, supper to feed us all last night.

As I sit here this morning, things are really looking and feeling pretty darned good! The lawn looks great, Molly's sore leg is oh-so-much better, Dinah and Mandy's two pony-dogs get along just fine, although she still has to be tied as I fear she will get on the trail of game and I will never see her again. I need to train her with the wireless fence collar as soon as possible. A few lilacs are still in bloom, the ones that didn't freeze, some apple blossoms are niceifying the air with their scent, and I plan to take a walk to the pond as soon as I get off here. I am told there is a moose on the property, lots of turkeys, turtles laying eggs in their dug holes on the pond banks, and I need to check the status of the blueberries. Perhaps I will not burn it all down after all!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

Whew, I'm exhausted just reading about the work you just did Soos, and ready to weep in frustration with you. But then you ended with a description of the beauty and serenity that surrounds you and makes it all worthwhile. So, I'm smiling now.

I smiled at the half inch or so of wet snow accumulation here this morning, since I'm tucked in warm and dry with electric hookups in this PA park. Rare to find a PA park that honors their rates for several days over a holiday weekend. I plan to take a walk later through this historic and picturesque western town. It should be pretty with a little bit of snow clinging to the roofs and branches.

Hope every makes this a good day.

good morning ladies
Soos, I so enjoyed your post, reminds me of the days we spent every weekend up at our cabin in Colorado. Always something
to get done. Can't say that I actually MISS those days, but I certainly do enjoy reminiscing.
Not doing much of anything this weekend, nothing major anyway. The tulips son got me for Mothers Day have finally finished
their life cycle. Cut them off yesterday and will dig out the bulbs, let them dry and package them for the fridge for next year.
Will try to get them to grow again next year, if not, nothing lost cause I have memories of their beautiful blooms and a few nice
pictures on sons phone.
Gracie is on day two of tummy troubles, she gets so stressed out with loud noises when grandson was here he played video
games in the livingroom, very loud shoot em up kind. Then the toxins from her teeth really set it all in motion. Can't let her
continue on like this, will have to take her in and get her teeth done regardless of the cost. The price quoted was $250-300.
I have that in my savings account and all the debts are taken care of for June, will worry about July later on.
Washing machine is done with this load, need to get it on the line and start the next one. Ya'll have a great day.

Good morning all. Soos - I agree with Liz - was wiped out just thinking of all that stuff that needed to be done. But, you saved the day telling of all the nice things that are happening. Everything will be taken care of in its own time. Enjoy your party.

Soos I am so glad that your personal "village" stepped up and help make things "righter" around the place. It is difficult to keep up with all the little things that become big things around property. Along that line we did get an offer made on my fathers property back in Ohio. There were offers and counter offers. Being made and in the end I accepted less than I thought I would but it was with realization that the house needed to be lived in by someone who would do the up keep and repairs. Sitting on the market for two years waiting for someone to come up with a higher dollar figure would do the house no good and I didn't see anyone in my immediate family either the funds or the energy to do what needed to be done even now.... There is a reason many here make the decision to sell and full time. The world that needs upkeep and repair gets smaller and more manageable.

Hope everyone has journey full of grace and wonders today.

Sue you may have an easy weekend at work the way the weather sounds. Soos, I think I would have lit the match from the sounds of what you found, how's your insurance  Glad the kids helped you with everything.
Liz if you feel like someone is following you as you wander around town in that lovely snow, (I say that because given the chance I'll take the snow to this heat,) don't worry it's only me there in spirit! I hope Carol is feeling better and Mitch gets her battery issue solved.
I watered again this morning as this heat just sucks it right up. Thank goodness it was cool with a breeze, but that didn't last long. I'm cooking chicken now to have later and making some rhubarb sauce to freeze for winter. Course I'll have to sample it with a little vanilla ice cream.

I'm tired too from all of Soos work. That's the reason I rethought a camp at the lake 200 miles away and no one to see about it but me. Put your company to work. I know you were discouraged but you have a beautiful place to spend the summer.

I don't know what I will do, probably nothing. My son won't answer his phone so don't know what they are doing. My sister had the dye test to check for blockage. She is fine but can't do anything for 3 or 4 days. About the only thing left is clean house, wash the motorhome or go shopping. All the stores are having Memorial Day sales but I don't need anything.

I'm enjoying the trip with the Alaska bound group. I have never really wanted to go to Alaska but it would be fun just traveling with them. We got snowed on the first week of June at the Grand Canyon so this will probably not be the only snow they see.

Morning everyone. Liz enjoy your day today in the snow. I cannot imagine at this time of year. It's really hot and humid already here. Sure hope I get my motorhome soon enough to escape the biggest part of the heat this summer. Soos, I really feel for you. I would have been very frustrated too. Mom and I came home to no water in either of our homes since we are on the same well. Hopefully it is the pressure switch that went out as Chuck had one still in the packaging in the well house. Ray and James, the guys we have been paying to help out around here, are coming today to change that out. If it's not that, I am afraid it may the the well pump. It is not cheap to replace the pump and I really don't want to have to buy a new one, but may have to. Am sitting here looking out the front door at the lawn that needs to be mowed. Paul, my brother, did not get to get that done while Mom and I were gone as he was trying to get the well going before we got home. No luck there. Today is his Sabbath, so he will not be able to help today.

Good news, hopefully. The man we sold a couple acres to a few years ago called while Mom and I were gone. He put a landscaping business in on the acreage we sold him and has now completely run out of room. He and I are trying to work a deal where he can buy the rest of the acres we have along with Mom's mobile home and Paul's travel trailer. That would be the perfect solution for both of us. He is going to have his banker do an appraisal and will let me know what his banker says he will be able to pay for the land. If it is anything above what Chuck said was the lowest amount he thought I would be able to get for the land, etc., I am going to take it. He has always been an honorable person to deal with so I am comfortable with what he tells me. Told him if we do the deal, as soon as I find a home for the big dogs (I think I have), he can take down fence between us and start moving equipment over here, don't have to wait for closing. By the same token, he said after funding and I get the motorhome, he has no problem with me staying here for as long as it takes me to move from the house into the motorhome. He also volunteered his workers to help me with any moving or heavy cleaning I might need done. Win, win for both of us. He said if was OK, he would call me so he can walk the land to see what all is here today or tomorrow. He said he was thinking about putting a tree farm in here. That would be nice.

Everyone have a really great day today!

Good Morning,

Cloudy in Wasilla, Alaska. We spent the night in a RV park but will find boondocking today. Heading toward Fairbanks but would like clearer skies so we might get a quick peak at Mt. McKinley. We aren't in any hurry since we didn't spend as much time in Canada as planned. We can explore at our leisure right now since we don't have any reservations until June 18 when we go to Prudhoe Bay.

Hope everyone has a good weekend......safe travels to those on the road.
