Another Recipe Gone Bad!

Man, I'm batting zero this week...
Looks good, right?
Tastes like ass.
Can sesame seeds go "bad"?
The bread itself was just okay (not at all like real crunchy, crusty Italian bread), but those sesame seeds. ACK (to quote Soos).

Yes, Vickie - BOTH loaves went in the trash.

I don't even have to ask the Trash question anymore. I was wondering how often you've tasted ass? :?

EDIT: Nevermind, I REALLY don't want to know!

Well, dang. I don't remember when I bought the jar, but it was still sealed when I used it today.

Does the jar have an expiration date on it?

I think I would assume that the problem was the seeds get new seeds and try again perhaps cooked longer and or hotter to get the crust perhaps :?

Did you have a pan of water in the oven also? I think that's what they do sometimes to get the crunchy crust.

I had a sheet tray in the oven while it was preheating to 400. I put the bread in the oven and immediately threw in a big handful of ice cubes. Then I misted the loaves 3 times every 3 minutes.

The texture wasn't right for Italian bread, either. It was good, but more like regular bread, just shaped differently.

I haven't given up, though.
Just call me Doña Quixote.
(yes, that's a tilde over the "N"...not a speck on your screen)
