Just checked Mitch, and am getting different answers , so to be on the safe side, keep throwing it in the trash can. Seems that they can't make up their minds about it. Sure wouldn't want to do anything that would hurt the birdies.

I had heard somewhere along the line it wasn't good to feed birds bread. Found this:

If you do not regularly feed the birds, but during the winter you throw out stale doughnuts/bread and think you are doing good, think otherwise. Junk food and bread may fill up the bird's belly, but it won't provide the necessary protein and fats necessary to keep their little body warm. They'll fill up on the bread and not have room for the high energy foods (seeds, insects) necessary to keep them warm during the cold winter nights. So even if you see the birds devouring the bread, remember that it may cause them to drop dead during the night. Save the stale bread for your meatloaf.

Thanks, Pat. Good to know. I'll keep tossing it in the trash.
I have one more bread experiment, and I'll be done for a while.
I want to try this no-knead bread as a pizza dough...

..

I wanted to know the cost of a loaf of homemade bread...

Taking into consideration flour (2 C.), salt, yeast (bulk), water, and the cost to run an electric oven at 350 for 1 hour - GRAND TOTAL = $0.50!

This little piece of useless information was brought to you by an Anal Dufus who has been locked up in the house far too long!

Now, if I could only back my little trailer up my driveway, I'd bring it back to the house...yard's too wet to drive across.

Sigh.

So, if we hear of another massive bird die-off in NW Tennessee, we'll know why! :D :D

When you were little......okay, let me rephrase that, when you were young, didn't your Mom ever tell you to eat all your food because there were starving kids in Louisiana?

Why do you make all this bread and then just throw it away? Do you have a friend or neighbor who would like it?

Her neighbors are a long way off (she has a huge property) and George learned a long time ago not to try her experiments. He may be forgetting stuff, but obviously not that lesson.
