Hominy must be a southern thing - I grew up with hominy and grits as well. Masa harina, which is used to make tamales and corn tortillas, is from a form of dried hominy that is ground into a flour.

I don't think being raised in Southern Calif made me southern?!?!? I just love hominy and HATE okra. I've had okra every which way and still hate it. I was surprised that mac and cheese seemed to be so popular in South Carolina when I was there. lyn

How about Polenta? OMGosh - so delicious. It's the Italian version of grits.

Okra is gross. ACK.
But it grows a purdy plant.
