Homemade Soft Pretzels

Homemade Soft Pretzels

I am no longer a Pretzel Baking Virgin.
They were easy (except for the twisting part).
They are delicious.
It's a shame I can't eat them.

They will not go in the trash.
They will go to my neighbor, who is having a big family reunion this weekend.

Now I'm off to find a good and spicy dipping sauce.

They look awesome.

I was good at twisting pretzels once upon a time - after taking a tour and learning how. You should see the people in the place I toured (who twist ALL their pretzels by hand) and do it in a fraction of a second each. Amazing. Roll it, pick up ends, twist in air and it lands completely and perfectly twisted. Then on to the next, and the next and the next ... No, I didn't learn to do that - and can't even remember the easy way they taught me to twist it fairly quickly (well, not even fairly quickly in comparison to them) by laying it out properly.

years ago and I do mean years ago I got it in my head that I was going to make bagels
I can read a recipe right??? So I do as it says then my oven went out had to go to my mom's
and bake them...my sister made some smart remark about how they didn't look like bagels should look
took them home and was going to offer some to the neighbor who was from of all places New York
my offer to her was something of this order I've all ready been told they don't look like bagels should but
hope you will enjoy them anyway...she came over later and soothed my ruffled feelings by saying that
they looked and tasted the way they would have in New York....a good neighbor  never made bagels again
but those sure look good

There is one of those pretzel places in our Mall. When they first opened there was a glass front where you stood in line and could watch the people get the pretzels ready to bake. That inspired me to try to make some. I learned how to twist them but don't know if I still remember how. I used one of the refrigerated canned breads you can buy. I should make some with Jeremy while he is here. He loves bread.

Did you boil the canned bread dough before baking?

There are youtube videos on how to twist.
Still takes practice.

No, I didn't boil them before baking. The place in the Mall dips them in some liquid before they put them on the trays. I know what ever they dip them in isn't boiling because they do it by hand. I don't remember if I did that or not. Probably not.
